Task Management
CatchTime has a full-featured task management system that helps you plan your work and track how much time each task actually takes.
Tasks and Categories
CatchTime uses a two-level structure to organize tasks:
Categories
- Categories are containers for grouping tasks
- Examples: "Work", "Study", "Side Project"
- A default task is automatically created when you create a new category
- You can freely create, rename, and delete categories
- When deleting a category, all tasks under it will be transferred to another category of your choice
Tasks
- Tasks are specific things you need to do, each belonging to a category
- Examples: "Finish product requirements doc", "Review Chapter 3"
- Each task can have its own title and notes
Task Timer
Every task has a built-in timer to track the actual time spent:
- Start — Tap the start button to begin timing
- Pause — Pause the timer when you need a break or switch to something else
- Resume — Pick up where you left off; previously recorded time is preserved
- Complete — Mark the task as done; the timer stops automatically
Timer data is recorded as task sessions, and you can view the time and duration of each session in the task details.
Task timer data also appears on the Insights page, so you can see how much time you actually spent on each task.
Kanban View
CatchTime provides two ways to view and manage tasks:
List View
- Traditional task list format
- Supports search, filter, and sort
- Great for quickly browsing and managing many tasks
Kanban View
- Divided into four columns by task status: To Do, In Progress, Paused, Completed
- Gives a clear visual overview of all tasks and their current status
- Great for getting a big-picture perspective
Drag and Drop
- In Kanban view, drag tasks from one status column to another
- For example, dragging a task from "To Do" to "In Progress" will automatically start the timer
- You can also drag within the same column to reorder tasks
