Quick Start

This guide helps you set up CatchTime and start tracking your time in just 5 minutes.

Step 1: Install and Launch

Open CatchTime after installation. You'll see a welcome screen on first launch.

If you haven't installed it yet, check out the Download page first.

Step 2: Sign Up or Log In

  • Tap "Sign Up" to create a new account with your email and password
  • If you already have an account, tap "Log In"
  • You'll receive a verification email -- click the link to verify your account
  • You can also skip login and use CatchTime in offline mode

Tip: Signing in enables cloud sync, so your data stays consistent across devices.

Step 3: Basic Settings

Open the Settings page and adjust these options to your preference:

Language

  • CatchTime supports English and Chinese
  • Switch languages in Settings and the interface updates immediately

Theme

  • Choose from Light, Dark, or System (follows your OS setting)
  • Pick your preferred theme in Settings

Launch at Startup (Desktop)

  • We recommend enabling auto-start so CatchTime runs in the background every time you boot up
  • Toggle this option in Settings

Step 4: Start Tracking

Once set up, CatchTime automatically tracks your app usage in the background -- no manual action needed.

  • Desktop: CatchTime detects which window is in the foreground and records the app name, window title, and duration
  • Android: CatchTime reads app usage data through the Usage Access permission
  • Browser Extension: Once installed, it automatically tracks the websites you visit

You can minimize the CatchTime window. It will continue running silently in the system tray.

Step 5: View Your Data

After using CatchTime for a while, check the Insights page to see your time data:

  • Day View — See today's time breakdown and how long you spent in each app
  • Week / Month / Year View — Spot trends and patterns over longer periods
  • Category Distribution — A sunburst chart shows how your time is distributed across categories
