Frequently Asked Questions

Data Security

Does CatchTime see my screen content?

No. CatchTime only records the name of the app you're using and the window title. It does not take screenshots, record your screen, or read any screen content.

Does CatchTime log my keystrokes?

No. CatchTime does not record keyboard input, passwords, or any text you type into apps.

Where is my data stored?

Your data is stored locally on your device first. If you enable cloud sync, it's encrypted in transit and stored on secure cloud servers. See Cloud Sync for details.

Can I delete my data?

Yes. You can delete local data in Settings. You can also contact us to delete cloud data. If you delete your account, all associated cloud data is permanently removed.

Can anyone else see my data?

No. Only you can access your data. We do not share your personal data with any third party.

Sync Issues

Why isn't my data syncing to other devices?

Check the following:

  • Are all devices signed in with the same account?
  • Is the device connected to the internet?
  • Wait a few minutes for periodic sync to complete

If the issue persists, try triggering a manual sync in Settings.

I can't see historical data on a new device. What should I do?

The initial sync may take longer, especially with a large amount of data. Keep the app open and make sure you have a stable internet connection. If sync hasn't completed after a while, try restarting the app.

Does sync consume a lot of data?

CatchTime uses incremental sync, transferring only new and modified data each time. Data consumption is minimal -- typically just a few KB per sync cycle.

Tracking Accuracy

Why is the usage time for some apps inaccurate?

Possible reasons include:

  • Idle not detected — If you walk away from your computer without locking the screen, CatchTime may continue recording. Consider locking your screen when you step away
  • Brief switches — Window switches under 3 seconds are filtered out. This is expected behavior
  • Browser not distinguishing sites — Without the browser extension, all browser activity is recorded as a single app. Install the Browser Extension to track individual websites

Why does Android tracking data differ from desktop?

Android relies on system-level usage statistics, which may have different precision compared to desktop's real-time window detection. This is normal.

Why are some time periods not recorded?

Possible reasons:

  • CatchTime was not running -- make sure it's active in the background
  • Idle time -- periods when you weren't using the device aren't recorded
  • System sleep -- ensure CatchTime isn't being paused by power-saving features

Subscription & Billing

Can I use CatchTime for free?

CatchTime offers a free tier that includes basic time tracking and data viewing. Advanced features (like AI analysis, cloud sync, app limits, etc.) require a subscription.

What subscription plans are available?

How do I manage my subscription?

Tap "Subscription Management" in Settings to view your current subscription status, upgrade, or cancel.

Will I lose my data if I cancel my subscription?
